Fortunately, Medicare rebates are available in Australia for those seeking psychological services. Medicare rebates are available for up to 10 individual and 10 group sessions per calendar year. To be eligible for the rebate, you must have a referral from a GP, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician. You must also be diagnosed with a mental health condition such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder.
What Your Referral Needs
The following information is required for a valid referral:
- Your name, date of birth, and address
- The number of sessions that you are being referred for
- A statement saying that a mental health plan has been created
- A diagnosis or symptoms
- A statement requesting psychological treatment
- The GP’s name, signature, and Medicare provider number
